Question
As it states, I have two dogs.  One is small and terrified of everything, but if it came down to the chinchilla and my dog, he would bark at it and run away.  It's my other dog that worries me.  She is a slighty large labradoodle and is very nice and loves all people.  She hates cats and will take any oppertunity to chase one.  When there was a mouse downstairs, she stayed down there all night waiting for it.  I really want a chinchilla, but am scared for it.
Second, how expencive are they normally?  From a decent breeder, that is.
Do they make noise at night?  I'd love one, but that would get kind of annoying after a while.
Lastly, my mother said I couldn't get a bird becasue it would smell.  Do chinchillas smell?  Just wondering.

Answer
I would recommend keeping the chinchilla away from both of your dogs. The barking by the one would most likely terrify it. If you can keep the chinchilla in a room by itself it should be fine.
You can usually get a nice standard from a reputable breeder for between 50-65 dollars.
They are rather noisy at night. I got used to it after a few days and now I can't sleep when it's quiet.
Chinchillas don't smell, not unless you leave the cage uncleaned. If the cage is kept clean they are pretty much odorless.

Hope this helps!
