Pet Squirrels

Question
I was just wondering- would squirrels make good pets? (I mean squirrels that have been raised in captivity, of course). It seems to me they'd be no worse than pet rats- curious and intelligent. Would a pet squirrel bond with its owners like a cat or dog? What would be the downsides to squirrel ownership?

Thanks

Answer
The only downside I can think of is finding a big enough cage and making an area for them to climb and jump. Squirrels are extremely smart and they can bond with their owners. As long as you talk to someone who raises them, so they can give you advise on how big of a cage you should have, squirrels are very crafty animals. I mean every season the same squirrels gang up on dogs and decide to make them go crazy by running up and down trees :).
