flying squirrel bite

Question
I had to rescue a flying squirrel my cat brought in, thankfully unharmed. Poor thing was so scared and bit me when I caught it.  No big deal, it bled, so I forced the little bite to bleed well and put alcohol on it.  Seems like a silly question, but should I be concerned about this bite?

Thanks...  Mike

Answer
What you need to look for in this case is :
1)Do you know if the squirrel was eating for drinking? An animal with rabies does neither

2)Was it foaming at the mouth or showing any signs of being sick?

Since you let the animal go you cannot have it tested. Your best bet is to see your physician and make sure that you take precautions. It is going to need to be flushed and your Dr with likely prescribe an anti-biotic. If necessary you can always contact your local wild life agency to find out if rabies has been reported in squirrels in your area.
