Degu cant breath

Question
Hello,

I have a 5.5 year old female Degu.  Recently she developed a breathing problem.  She seems to be very congested, and strugles hard to breath through her nose and mouth.  I took her to a vet and they gave me an anti biotic and and anti inflammatory to help with the inflammation in her sinuses.  I gave her both for a week with no improvement.

Is there anything else I can do to help her?  She will not eat or drink.  She has not eaten or drank in over a week, and is alive only because I feed her a recovery formula for herbivorous by syringe 3 times a day.

According to the vet, Degu's don't get "colds" and its either a bacterial infection (which we hoped it would be, but the antibiotics didn't help) or the vet said it could be cancer or some other terminal disease that they cant do anything about it. The only other option is to possibly try another anti biotic, but the vet said the one she gave me is really good and if that one didn't work, its unlikely another kind would work.

Is there anything more I can do please to help her?  I have an appointment to put her down this Saturday because her quality of life is very poor right now and only my syringe feeding is keeping her alive.

Please help me!

Answer
I'm sorry to say but I don't have anything else to offer.  The vet had some pretty sound advise, and she is in what is known to be to be around the time captive degus go.  Love her, comfort her, and know that she had a long and good life and that you're doing the right thing.
