trust training rats

Question
Hi there. I was wondering if you could help me with something. I have two female rats, They were pretty near adults when I bought them, and I have been trying to "trust train" them since. I have one hooded rat, and the other is all one color. The hooded rat is basically friendly, she licks my hand, but she is not very confident. She will come out on top of the cage but doesn't like to be picked up or handled. The other has been very calm, but she has this "attitude" once in a while where she will bite aggressively at me. Today when I was petting the other rat and then went to pet her, which they both usually don't mind, she took ahold of my finger and wouldn't let go. I was trying today to lure them out of the cage with their favorite treats, The full color one would come out and get them but the hooded was too scared. Is there anything that you can suggest that might help? So they don't see me as this huge monster that they should be terrified of? Thank you in advance for your time.

Melissa

Answer
Hi there,  sorry I have taken ages to get back to you.

In my opinion female rats are always harder to tame than males.  Carry on with what you are doing.  If they bite when picked up try putting on gloves and pick them up.   Eventually they should get used to it.  Put them in a place where they are surrounded by people and get different people to feed them.
