Question
I'm kinda very confused about what to get as a pet a guinea pig, hamster etc... ??? (Gerbils are illegal in CA so i can't have that).
I'm looking for a pet that doesn't sheds alot my husband doesn't allow a pet that sheds because of religious reasons. And would prefer a medium size housing since i have already a huge parrot cage for an African grey.
I lost my 2 cats because of their shedding and I'm kinda looking for another pet with a big personality. but afraid of losing it again. That's why I'm asking you.
Does guinea pigs shed alot ? are there different sizes of them like small, medium or big like hamsters depending on breed ?

Thank you.

Answer
If you are looking for a pet that is not going to shed a lot you are going to want to get a hamster or a hairless rat. Guinea pigs shed ALOT so in your case that would be out of the question. Rats have wonderful
personalities and they like to play. Mine likes to sit on my shoulder while I walk around the house. I have had hairless and they are just as sweet as any other pet rodent. It may take time to get use to the look, but there is no hair to worry about.

Now hamsters are good too. You can get a small cage with tunnels, but remember that they are nocturnal so you will hear them a lot at night. You would want to place them in an area that is not going to bother you when they are making noise.

There is also hairless cats. Since you had cats you may want to look into this. I always wanted one but haven't found any around my area. They need special care compared to a regular cat so you would want to read on this. Here is a good link :

There is also the route of getting a reptile. Lizards make good pets and don't shed at all. It depends on if you like that sort of animal.

I hope that this helps. Maybe you can find something both of you can enjoy w/o the worry of shedding or going against any religious meaning.

Thank you using all experts and ask any questions you may need :)
