Question
My GP has gotten sick. Her weight is barely anything and her tummy skinny and scary. She is around 2 years old. I was holding her in my lap and where her bottom was it got some red blood looking stuff on my shirt. Her poop is orangish redish and she is acting very different However my mom says the vet isnt open today and im scard to wait any longer. I feed her the small hard round food but she wont eat it now (she ususally always does). I hand fed her some apples but i need some more advice on what to do. I also need a small animal vet around Garland, Texas. Im not sure the vet where i take my dog would know anything about GPs PLEASE HELP!

Answer
Robin --

Well, for starters, the easiest way to find out if your vet knows anything about guinea pigs is to ask.  If he says no, ask him for a recommendation.  I'm sorry I can't give you one, but I'm not from Texas, so I have no idea which vets are good.

I would definitely take this animal to the vet immediately -- I mean ASAP.  There are some very serious diseases associated with blood in the stool, so please take your animal to a good vet as soon as you can.  That is the best advice I can give right now.

Hope this is helpful.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.  Good luck, and let me know how it turns out.
