growths

My guniea pig has a growth on the underfoot of his paw and the color is black. I would like to know if this is serious or if it is normal?

Hi Jennifer,

    I would have to see the bump to determine whether it is normal or not.  Chances are it could be something serious, and in any case of medical concern a vet should be consulted immediately.  I have heard of many cases of abscesses and cysts, but none of which occur under a paw.

    It is difficult to find a vet who will see a guinea pig, and when you do make sure that it is one who is experienced with guinea pigs to prevent misdiagnosis.
