Guinea Pig Depression re blindness

Please advise any information regarding blindness and cataracts.  Our guinea pig almost 4 years old, female, long haired, just went blind.  We took her to the veterinarian last evening, and this was his diagnosis.  She is VERY depressed, lethargic and unresponsive.  We are hand feeding her, petting her and trying to keep her spirits high.  It is most distressing and a real shock to us.  If you can, please advise what you can in order to help us all cope.  Thank you.

It would be in her best interest to either get her a neutered male buddy or... have her put down, this may seem harsh but think how much pain she probably is. Don't take my word for it but this what I feel is best for her. Before you do anthing, ask a few of the older more experienced experts just in case.
