Taking my guinea pigs to travel or not

Question
I have two beautiful female guinea pigs (6 and 4 months old). I live in Scotland and I will have to go to Portugal for a month. I am not from here, and I don't know who to ask to take care of them for me; who would accept to come to my flat and give them some fresh food and clean the cage everyday. So, I decide to take them with me. But I don't know if shipping them with an air company would be a good idea. The other possibility is going by train/ship. I really don't know what to do. Could you please give me some advice on it? I want the best for my guinea pigs!!

Answer
Hi Nara

Obviously if it was possible to leave your piggies with someone you trust this would be best. I live in south yorkshire so if I lived closer I would look after your piggies for you:)

I dont see a reason from the piggies' health point of view why you shouldnt take them with you although there may be some legal restrictions from taking "livestock" into another country.

How about calling local dog kennels and catteries to see if they can accomodate your piggies, just an idea, or a local rescue centre.

Sorry I cant help more but if you have to pass through my way on your journey, let me know :)
