My Hampster

Question
My hampster turned 2 1/2 on thanksgiving. He has a red scab on his upper chest and it seems to be getting bigger-do you have any idea what it could be? I noticed it about 3 months ago, I believe. Thanks!

Answer
Hey, Monica.

The 'red scab' that's gotten bigger sounds like a tumor that could lead to cancer.  You should take him to a vet if you can, to see if the vet can remove this tumor before it's too late.  However, I do have to congratulate you on your hamster being more than 2 1/2 yrs old... That's a long time for a hamster to live and it shows that you've taken good care of him.
Again, the only thing you can really do is to let a vet have a look at your hamster, so that he can give you the correct diagnosis and prescribe any treatment that may be necessary.
If you have any more questions, I'll be glad to help out.  Good luck with your hamster and best wishes to both of you.
