Question
We got our son a drawf hamster last may so Spa is only 14 months. Old how long do they live. Spa has done nothing but lie in her cage she doesn't move any more and I don't think that she is eating or drinking. My son is away at camp and I really don't want her to die while I am in care My son noticed last week that she had the runs and he thought that she might be pooping blood. Any ideas on what might be wrong with her would be helpful
Thanks Wendy

Answer
Hello, it sounds like your hamster is old. Dwarf hamster live for about 1-2 years. So it seems like spa is just reaching old age. If he's pooping blood, then his rectum may be collapsing and there's not much that can be done about that. I would really take the hamster to a vet to get looked at and see if there is anything possible that can be done to save him, but in my personal opinion due to his old age I don't think there's much the vet could do. He could try to give you some antibiotics to help but that's the best thing i recommend that you do. Keep me posted on how things go.
