Question
Um yes i have a Male and Female hamster they both live in the same cage and they dont fight or anything but my? here is .. my female is much older than my male but they have been mating aleast more then 10 times... how do u tell if she is pragnent... and if not how do i tell if she is to old to get pragnent if she  is over 12 mouths does the female still have frezze? please help me thank u very much

Hi Briana,

Syrian hamsters (or "Teddy Bear" hamsters) are the most common type of hamster.  They are the largest type.  Here's a picture of one:

Dwarf Campbells Russian hamsters are pretty common, too.  They are small and have a stripe running down their backs.  Here's a picture of one:

Hi Briana,

Once a hamster reaches the age of 12 months, it becomes harder for her to get pregnant.  It can happen, but it takes longer for an older hamster to regain her former condition.  Some hamsters become unable to have babies at all after they're a year old.

Signs of pregnancy include building a large nest and hoarding food in it.  Around day 10, the hamster's belly will start expanding, and her nipples may become more prominent.

If you have Syrian hamsters, it's very important that you place the male hamster in another cage.  He will harm the babies.  Syrian hamsters should not live together.
