My black bear hamster had babies 7 days ago, she is used to being held each day. When can she be taken out of the cage and handled?

Hi Lauren,

Your hamster needs as much time as possible with her babies. However, you can handle her each day, but for very short periods of time. For instance, try to handle her for only about 1-2 minutes at a time. She will be anxious to return to her babies.

(When you get her out of the cage, be very careful not to touch the babies. The baby hamsters shouldn't be touched at all until they are 2 weeks old.)
