Answer
Dear Jay,
thank you for your question.
Chinese dwarf hamsters are solitary. The other dwarf hamster species do live in pairs or sometimes groups in the wild, but in captivity, they fight in almost all cases. In the wild, breeding pairs live together, but they have a lot of room to avoid each other and they do change partners. They cannot do that in captivity and even really big cages can become too small then. Pairs or groups of the same sex don't get along, at least not for longer than a few months. There are always exceptions, but usually people end up with a lot more cages than they had planned.

Hamsters give birth to 6-12 babies per litter and the female will get pregnant almost immediately after giving birth. If you really want to breed hamster, I recommend joinging a hamster club to learn about genetics and to get in contact with good breeders. You have no way of knowing the genetic makeup of storebought hamsters and some gene combinations can cause stillborn or malformed babies (no eyes, organ failure ect.).

If you want social rodents, I would keep (but not breed) mice. But if you do want dwarf hamsters, I can  only recommend keeping only one  hamster.
I hope I was of some help to you
