Hamster nose...Bleeding??

Question
My hamster's nose has been bleeding or seems to be bleeding eveytime it takes a bath.i wonder if it's allergic to the produst? I'm using squeeky clean critter shampoo super pet.  this only happens after the bath while I'm drying her in a towel. and she tends to scratch it a bit. I'm just wondering, is it mucous, allergies or should I take her to the vet?

Answer
Hi Jenny -
It's actually not recommended to bathe hamsters. It's easy for them to get respiratory infections from being in the water/wet, and they truly do not need baths, as they are pretty good at keeping themselves clean.

I would discontinue the baths, and monitor your hamster for any further discharge. Is she making any noises when she breathes? If so, it is likely she has a respiratory infection. In that case, you will need to take her to a vet to get her a prescription for antibiotics to clear it up.

Let me know if you have further questions!
