Question
"i have a 4 year old male and i am looking to get another ferret. i had gotten a 4 month old male a couple months ago and they didnt get along at all. So i had to return him. After that happened b/c of the stress from the young ferret he had contracted ECE... which somehow led to liver failure. but he is up and running again. I am still looking to get another ferret, but if i got an older ferret would that have a better chance of working out?. i have a choice opportunity  to get a 4 year old male ferret with all accessories including a cage for $75 and i would love to take the person up on this. what should i do?

Answer
ECE is a virus and can appear after a new ferret arrives IF the new ferret has it.  It is not caused by stress and this is why a quarantine period is vital.  Age isn't usually relevant in ferret introductions although a really young ferret may be too much for an old ferret to handle.  Read some of the previous answers or check out smallanimalchannel.com for some other ideas on introducing ferrets, because the main issue is to basically let them play with each other and humans stay out of it.  If you are willing to quarantine them and leave them alone to figure each other out, then the choice is yours.
