Ferret hide and seek

My ferret loves to crawl under things and run about in the living room but she has been somehow getting into the settee and hiding for ages before coming out, i keep fixing the hole but she just chews it open again. She also scratches the carpet near doors when they're not open. How can I stop her doing this?

How I feel your pain!  I had a pregnant jill once who really wanted to give birth in my sofa!  With both problems the easiest solution is not behavioral, but a distraction.  
For the sofa - try to close the hole or area with something she can't chew through - canvas or a tough material.  I ended up taking the legs off my sofa so a ferret couldn't fit under it.
For the scratching - if you can - place sandpaper on the floor by the door.  This  will not only deter the scratching, but also keep her nails shorter.  You could also work on training with her to help keep her busy and occupied.  Try hiding food around or playing interactive games with her.
