Question
What would be the low temp? We are considering turning our laundry room into a ferret room and  want to make sure we keep the room at a comfortable temp in the winter as well. Thanks!

Question -
We have gone from a 2 ferret household to a 4 ferret household. Can you give me some ideas to keep the odor down so dh will let me keep them in the living room? We use Bio-odor but I'm not so sure it makes a difference. We have been cleaning their ears often and scooping the litter box twice a day. Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated.

My other question is about temperature. What is the ideal temp to keep the area they are living?

Hi Paula,

Those are two easily answered questions! For the odor, instead of bi-odor (I am skepitcal about that too) all you have to do in addition to regular litter box cleanings, is wash their bedding often and use liberal amounts of fabric softener. When they sleep in the bedding the ferrets will also smell "April fresh"!

The optimal temperature for the ferrets is under 85 degrees. A good way to tell if they are too warm is too see if they are no longer sleeping under their bedding (unless no matter how cold it gets they still don't sleep under covers). I have thought it was really warm in my house and worried about them only to go upstairs to see them piled on top of each other under blankets! Worries over!

Have fun with your fuzzies!

Answer
Paula,

Unless your house gets to the freezing mark your ferrets will be okay provided they have adequate bedding and no drafts. I would advise against the laundry room though because ferrets can escape through the dryer vent hose -- very easily! Plus, you really want to keep them in a place in the house that gets allot of people hanging around so they get plenty of attention.

Good luck!
