Question
is it true that it is pretty much inevitable that my ferret will end up with some sort of cancer, or condition that will either kill her or require surgery?

Answer
Hello Kelsey,

I apologize for not responding sooner. I've had some problems with my email recently. Generally, ferrets do tend to fall victim to various types of illnesses. I have also heard many stories about people having their ferrets to ripe old ages of upwards of ten years and some of those never have the general ferret illnesses. To answer your question, though, as with many different small pets, there are problems that ferrets generally tend to have, like adrenal disease, for one. This is the unfortunate side of keeping ferrets, but many of us ferret parents think the time we have with them is worth taking the risk for them.

I hope this helps, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,
Emilee Andrews
