i have a ferret that is about 2 years old and i have 2 others that are about 1 year.the 2 year old one will bite their ears till they scream and bleed.ive separated the older one for about a week but he wont stop. What should i do and how do i prevent it and why does he do it?

Answer
Hi Mark,

It is possible that your other ferrets need an ear cleaning. Ferrets do groom each other, even if it seems rough to us sometimes. Do you check your ferret's ears routinely to make sure there is no ear mite infestations or wax build-up? It is entirely possible that your older ferret is just grooming your younger ones. Check your little one's ears for ear mites or wax build-up. If you have never cleaned your ferret's ears, I would suggest asking your vet to give you a demonstration of the procedure. It isn't difficult, but it is always better to have a professional (or at least someone who knows what they are doing) to teach you how to do it to avoid harm to your furkids.

Until you have your ferret's ears checked, it might be a good idea to keep your furkids separated just to avoid harm. If the problem persists even after everyone's ears are checked, you might have to keep them housed separately to avoid further stress and pain on your littler guys.

I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,
Emilee Andrews
