Question
Help! I have owned ferrets previously and never run into this problem! I bought a 2 month old ferret 3 weekes ago, and this week decided to get him a friend. I purchased the new baby and was told he was born the week of Aug 6th. He is a lot smaller than his "brother". My problem is, he cries continually. He quiets down if the room is quiet, but as soon as I enter he cries again. I have kept him mostly separated from the other one since being with him seems to make him cry even more. He acts healthy, plays, eats, and is acting normally in every other way. Please help!

Answer
He may be younger than you were told - ferrets usually scream though.  Can you describe a cry sound?  He may be scared or lonley or seeking attention (which we gets when you come back or remove him from his friend).  I would have him checked over by a vet to make sure there are not issues.  They try some expirements - like how long does he cry when alone?  How long does he cry when with the other ferret?  Etc and figure out if he is scared or trying to get attention.  If all seems well by the vet and he is seeking attention I would leave him in with the other ferret - just put him and and leave him.  Like you would introduce to older ferrets.  He has to learn that another ferret is a good thing.
