Cage biting.

Question
Hello there. I own a ferret, her name is Cherish, and she's about a year to a year and a half old. I have her in a rather large cage, and I take her out for HOURS everyday, literally from early in the morning to mid afternoon, which we then put her up for a nap, then take her out for an extra 3 hours, but she still insists on biting it. By biting, I mean attacking it, literally. She climbs up onto it and bites it, shakes the entire cage, it's so loud. Is there any reason why? I'm worried she's going to hurt her teeth or end up falling. I mean she goes INSANE on the bars of this cage. What can I do to make her stop this behavior?

Answer
Cage biting can happen for a couple of reasons.  First, she may be ill or in pain so please have her checked out by a ferret vet.  Second, while is out and about, she may not be getting enough enrichment through activities while out or while in her cage.  Research enrichment articles for ferrets by Bob Church as he has some great suggestions that are geared specifically to enriching a ferret.
