Question
So I currently have two wonderful ferrets! However, I have hit a rough patch with money. I recently bought them two new foods, Mazuri Ferret Diet and 8 in 1 ultra blend. I looked at a food chart and they are both only rated at 5's!! I was shocked because I was told that Mazuri was a popular brand and I completely blanked (for the first time) and forgot to check the ingredients list on the 8-1. So my question is, is it a better idea to mix the two together? and than get a better food after its all gone. I tend to be a worry wart, so I dont want to cause any sickness to my ferrets. Theyre both about 8-9 months old now.

Answer
Dear Riley,

Be careful introducing ANY new foods.  Each day, add just a little of the new food to what your ferrets have already been eating.  Keep adding just a little more of the new food until the transition is complete.

Drastically changing from one food to another can cause very serious digestive problems and I know you don't want that.

Any good brand ferret food is fine, but don't forget the vitamins.  Vitamins are very important for these furry little guys. They contain valuable ingredients/nutrients that their food may not contain.  Just be careful to give only the recommended dosage.  So, as long as your little guys are getting their vitamins, any of the pet store foods are okay.

To answer your question about mixing the two foods you have, yes, you can mix the two foods.  However, if both these foods are new, please follow my advice and introduce them gradually to what you have already.

I hope I've been helpful, Riley.

Best wishes to you and your wonderful little friends.  And, I'm delighted that you are such a caring and responsible ferret owner.

Regards,
Janet
