Question
i just got a ferret about 3 hrs ago. it seems to not like being in the cage at all. she bites on the cages and shakes it. in a way im kind of scared for her. i really didnt think about researching about ferrets much, but i did do some. all i really need to know is a few things. is it normal for her to act "wild" in the cage? i have a wired cage for her. and how can i help her calm down?

Answer
Changing homes can be very stressful for a ferret, she's not used to her new cage or new home. It sounds like you haven't given her a chance to really explore her new surroundings, and she is full of energy and stress. Try letting her run around for a couple of hours and give her time to play and get exercise. A ferret is not meant to be cooped up in a cage all day long. But when play time is up, she needs to learn to accept being in her cage and be good. If she is making a racket and fussing don't give in and let her out; a ferret can and will adapt to your schedule of when you let them out. Make sure the cage is big enough too: no smaller than 3 by 4 feet.
