Question
hello

my ferret eve is about 1 1/2 years old.she seems to have lost quite a bit of weight over the last 2 weeks.. i have sat and observed her, and she is eating well, (obviously i cant be there all the time),drinking, and poop is looking as it should do.her eyes are bright and clear, and her nose is damp. she lives with 3 other ferrets, and they are all healthy but seem to have more weight on them than eve.i feed them on top quality ferret food.she is acting normally, very energetic and just as a ferret should be..! can you tell me is a certain amount of weight loss normal as none of the others have been like this?

many thanks

amanda

Answer
Hi Amanda,

I'm so sorry to hear that your little one is having some trouble. Unfortunately, weight loss can be attributed to so many things that I can't give you an exact answer to what the problem could be. I think this is something that would require a vet visit to get a check on. I would say monitor her very closely for a day or two and make sure that she is eating. I would put a bowl of food just for her and keep her separate for a day to see if she is eating. If she isn't, I would say definitely take her to the vet as soon as possible. In the meantime, you should also make sure she is drinking water. You might also try enticing her to eat by dribbling some Ferretone on her food. That may help her eat. Also, you could try all meat baby food (just meat, no additives). That might help her to eat - try Ferretone on that.

I hope that helps and please let me know if you have any further questions. Let me know how everything works out!

Sincerely,
Emilee Andrews

P.S.
What ferret food are you feeding your kids?
