After a dog gives birth

Question
Our german wirehaired pointer gave birth to 9 healthy pups 7 days ago. We took her and the pups to a vet 24 hrs after for a check and to get the tails and dew claws done. At that time the vet thought she was fine. I notice still today that she has just a drop of older blood on the outside tip of her birth canal. She also periodically pants and trembles. Her temp is normal for her 99.86. Do bitches bled a tiny bit after birth? It has been a few years since we had a litter and our last dog received a cleanout shot after, so I do not recall this. Thanks!

Answer
I would most definately take her back to the vet. The panting may signal that something may still be inside of her, and the trembling may suggest that she might have a calcium defecincy, which can be very dangerous. The trembling may also be just because of the panting, it's kind of hard to tell. I'd take her in to be on the safe side. A healthy mom after the birth of her litter is relaxed and stretched out for her pups to nurse. So, I would definately assume that somethings up. And yes, moms will have a bloody discharge after the birth of her litter. I really hope all goes well!:-)
