Whelping box heater?

Question
I've heard so much about not using heaters in the whelping box.  I'm concerned about puppies possibly getting too cold.  My whelping box is 4x4 feet for a medium female boxer.  Plenty of room but possibly problematic with the whole heat thing.  What's the best tpe of heater to use if I need one?  I've also read about using old 2 liter bottles filled with warm water wrapped in towels too.

Answer
Hi Michelle. I use fake lamb skin in the bottom of the box, and use the two liter bottles for warmth. I don't use anything else. I have found that this works wonders, and won't make mom too hot. You could use a heat lamp, but you have to watch it carefully as to not bake the pups. My favorite is the liter bottles. This way, the pups can snuggle up to it if they're cold, and move away from it easily if they get too hot. And, mom doesn't get hot herself. If your box is too big to start out with, you can put a seperator in it to make it smaller for now. Good luck!
