How to crate train & housebreak a 1 year old puppy

Question
We recently bought two mini dachshunds, and the ages are 5 months (female) and a 1 year old (male). The female is doing a good job on the housebreaking/crate training, but the the male is very stubborn and strong-willed. (He is very sweet, though). Both dogs LOVE people, and are VERY friendly and affectionate. I have no idea how to successfully housebreak/crate train this very strong-willed animal, and I DO NOT want to have to get rid of him! He is also a very smart and intelligent dog! We were planning on breeding both of the dogs since they are not related anyhow, but now, I'm not so sure. Would it be better to neuter the dog?? I would LOVE to hear SOON from some reliable sources on crate training/housebreaking a 1 year old MALE dog!!! Thanks in advance!

Answer
I never recommend breeding your dog unless you are a qualified breeder with experience reading pedigrees and knowledge of genetics plus the support of a very good vet. Your pets will be happiest and best behaved if they are spayed and neutered.
For your housebreaking issues, please refer to my article at http://www.thegooddogjournal.com/2008/11/housebreaking-made-easy.html and let me know if you have any questions.
