Question
Hello,
I have a chow that is seven years old the last three years he gets a problem about two to three times a year. He starts loosing his fur and scratches his self raw. I have spent many dollars on vet bills just to get medicine to tempory solve the problem but it is not getting to the solution.they say he has allergies.I treat him with frontline plus.He seems to do better when hes on that.So maybe its a flea bite that causes the problem in the summer, but it also occurs in winter once in a while.I don't feed him chicken or beef dog foods,he gets lamb and rice and that seems to help also he doesn't seem to be getting as bad. Do you have any other ideas I might be able to try to conquer this problem I hate to seem him suffer.Plus not to mention the odor that comes with this problem.

Answer
Try adding some Omega Fatty Acids to his food.  This will help with the coat.  If the itching is to bad, you can buy some cortizone spray to spray on the trouble areas.  Also, try giving him a bath in a good conditioner.  This shoulds help as well.  Another good food that I would use is Solid Gold dog food.  It is a wonderful holistic food that is good for the coat.  Hope this helps.
