I have a female puppy that I was hoping to breed in two years....my question, she has a noticable overbite that I don't like and will that show up in the pups she may have in the future? Will it show up in all the pups or just in a few or any at all?
thanks!

Hi Nancy,  I need to know what breed of dog you have, and how old she is before I can answer your question.

Thanks Dawn,

I have a rare Turkish Kangal Dog that is 12 weeks old at this time.  I own a five year old male Kangal that I hope to breed with her or another female when they reach age two.

Answer
Hi Nancy,  Some large breeds overbites will grow out by the time they get all their adult teeth in (by 6 months old).  If not, then yes it will be genetic and she will pass it on.  Depending on the male and what his lineage has passed on, there could be a wide variety of percentage of puppies with overbites.  With her's being promenint (if it doesn't grow out), it makes it a larger percentage of puppies possibly having it, and all of the puppies will carry the genetics to pass it on.  Remember the puppies carry 50% of their mother & 50% of their father, so they will have at least 50% chance of producing it in their get.  If the father has any percentage in him (it could be a generation or two back), then the percentage in the puppies to produce it would be even higher than 50%.  Hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions, feel free to let me know.
