Urinating too often

Question
Me and my family just bought a five month old cocker spaniel puppy from a lady that needed to find a home for her dog since she is moving away and can't keep her. We just got her this morning and since then we have been taking her outside every 30 minutes. She does not ask for the door, but will go to it if we ask her if she needs to pee. The problem is she still has managed to pee indoors 4 times! Just a few minutes ago she unrinated twice in a row when we had taken her outside just 15 minutes before. She is very friendly, plays with our other dog and does not seem too startled with her move at all. My question is, is she possibly marking her territory? Is she just nervous? Or should we worry about a UTI?
thanks
Melanie

Answer
Hi Melanie;
ALL male dogs will mark their territory, and I have seen some females do it.
She could just be excited in her new surroundings.
she goes to the door if you ask if she has to go pee. She may be trying very hard to please.
She is in a new place, new people, and she is very confused, and maybe she is just trying to get it off to a good start by doing everything right.
Taking her out every 30 minutes is probably making a nervous wreck out of her.
You need to just let her relax, and you need to realx, or you are going to wear out the whole family ANd the dog. LOl
Watch her, and when she needs to go pee, she will start looking for a place, or she may go to the door. She knows where it is now.
You can grab her up, take her out, and when she pees, make a big fuss over what a good girl she is, give her lots of love and pets, and she will understand right away she did it right, and will want that oerformance repeated.
Dogs will urinate more when they are nervous and/or excited.
Since she gets along with the other dogs well, just relax. The other dogs will tell her a lot of the family rules.
Just let her get aquainted with the other dogs and the family. The bussier you are trying to settle her in, the longer it will take for her to settle down.
Just treat her like she is one of the family and has been there all along, bearing in mind though that she is new and may make some mistakes.
She may not be sure what she is supposed to do at feeding time, bedtime etc, so you gently show her.
REALX!
This is a lil ole pup, not the queen of Sheba.LOL
If she continues to urinate more frequentkly than you think she should, a checkup with the Vet would be in order.
Unless you knew this lady very well, she may not have told you ALL the truths. so be prepared that the dog may have a bladder infection or something that neds to be corrected.
She needs to get aquainted with her new doctor anyway, if you are using a different Veterinarian than she has been taken to before.
If she has been in the care of another Vet, you need to get her medical records from that Vet. You would need to Lady you got her from to release them.
