Question
Have a small dog, 8-9 years old.  Looking for something to get the bugs off him.  He hangs around in the house most of the time, resting a lot between naps.  Outside his favorite stuff is long grass and apparently picking up all kinda bugs.  I'd like something "natural" stuff I might already have around the house.  Not crazy about the commercial products, don't seem to work well in the first place and costly.

Answer
Hi Don!

The very BEST thing I have found to get rid of fleas is Frontline.  I do not know of anything natural that will do the job and get rid of them for good.  I buy it in a spray bottle and a few pumps on the back of the neck will be enough.  It soaks into the skin, and when a flea bites, and they always bite, it kills the flea. It is good for dogs and cats and is quite safe for puppies and/or older dogs. If your dog is severely infested with fleas, it may take a day or two to see results as the fleas have to bite the dog first, but as I said, they ALWAYS bite, that's how they survive!   A bottle will cost you $30.00, but I have six dogs and a bottle will last me about four years. (four summers, that is. If you live in an area that has fleas year round, it will not last as long).   I am sold on it!  You can buy it from a Vet, or I buy it online.  Most veterinary or pet supply sites will sell it.  Just go to a search engine like "google" and type in "Frontline" and you will get all kinds of sites that sell it.
Sorry, I know you wanted something natural, but honestly, I have not found a natural product yet that works.

God Bless,
Becky
