Dog has swollen eyes and paws

Question
I have a 5 yr. old Pit who is very full of energy.  Starting yesterday her energy level has been low.  Not wanting to get up and go potty or see who's at the door! Then today I noticed that her eyes are very swollen and red with a bit of discharge and also her paws and legs look a little swollen.  Still no energy today.  She is eating and drinking lots of water though.  What could this be? I called the vet and they told me to give her some Benadril.  I am worried about her but don't want to take her to the vet if I don't have to.  She recently had Parvo (about 3 weeks ago), but I thought after 5 days in the hospital , she had made a full recovery.  Could this be the Parvo again?

Answer
Hi Amy :-)

Oh dear your poor little Dog. It does sound like this could be still Parvo related or that she has picked up a bacterial infection in her eyes and possibly her paws too.

Look in her paws for a stick or something sticking into the underside of her paws. If you find anything, remove it. Did she had repeat blood tests to make sure the Parvo Virus was gone from her system? If not then she needs this performed again.

I would definitely recommend you take her straight to the Vet. This doesn't sound normal at all and it is something that she needs urgent treatment for. Swollen legs can be caused by anything from bacterial to even a heart condition or a blood clot. Take her to the vet and I wish you luck.

Take care & all the best & please leave me a comment.
