Question
What is the difference between AKC and CKC?  When people say "has papers" what does that really mean?  Is CKC as good as AKC?  Please help!!

Thank you
Lora

Answer
That depends on which CKC you are referring to. The Canadian Kennel Club is a reputable dog registry, on a par with the American Kennel Club.

The Continental Kennel Club, however, is not. It is one of those numerous pseudo-registries formed after so many puppymillers left the auspices of the American Kennel Club after the AKC started requiring DNA samples on frequently-used sires, which speaks volumes on the honesty of puppymillers and their paperwork! These pseudo-registries will register anything for a buck, including mixed breeds.

When people refer to their dog "having papers", they mean it is registered, and can trace its ancestry back to the beginning of either the breed in this country, or to the beginning of that kennel club.

In the case of the Continental Kennel Club, "has papers" must mean that the dog is paper-trained and comes with copies of the local city newspaper<GGGGG> LOL!
