Dogs humping driving me insane!

Question
Greetings,
I have a 6mth Westie-M & a 4yr Golden Retreiver-F. The westie was brought for me as a present from my parter who owns the GR. Recently my westie "discovered he was a male" and began trying to mate with my partners GR.
It is driving me insane. I am a conservative person & i cannot handle seeing it - to make matters worse, there are children that live either side of us & their parents have complained about the dogs behaviors (they are good dogs, they never make a sound or do anything disruptive).
This behavior has been going on for around a month and while i save to get them desexed - i need some advice on how to get him to stop - my partners attitude is "just sell him" but i don't want to - i have always wanted a westie & i love the little fellow.
Please help!

Answer
Hi Kim;
The Westie is coming into the age where he can mate, so that is part o it. Neutering him wil fix the majority of it.
It could also be a little bit of trying to show dominance.
An IDIOT in Foorida, a few years ago beat his dog to death because the dog was humping another male.
The addled brained one, thought the dog was Gay. DUH!!!!
He was showing dominance over the other male. That is one of the ways they do that.
Females will sometimes hump another female. Trying to sho her that SHE is the boss or "Alpha" dog.
Other than having this little guy neutered, there is nothing to do but try to keep them separated.
Has the female been spayed?
If she has, it may be more to do with showing dominance.
This is NOT something to sell one of them for.
If you have to wait more to be able to afford the cost of neutering, call your Humane Society.
We have a neutering/spaying clinic here in the Dallad chapter.
A Veterinarian that does other Veterinary work for us,( actually there are several) that donate their time to spay and neuter at a reduced cost.
In our local part of the Dallas Chapter, The Irving Humane Society, we offer coupons, and they take it to one of the ?Vets that help us, and they get about 30% off the cost.
These are practicing, qualified Veterinarians. They just volunteer their time, and wepay a percentage of the cost, and the owner of the dog or cat pays the other part. This is what the medications and other expenses that would be out of the Veterinarian's pocket. The cost amounts to taking the dog to any Veterinarian, and not having to pay the office visit cost, or the fee for the Doctor's work.
Your Humane Society there may have something like that.
If you are in the Dallas area, just call the Dallas Humane Society.
I think the larger chapters all over have these clinics.
Our goal is to help prevent unwanted litters.
It is also beneficial to the dog's health to have them spayed and neutered at an early age, prefferably before their first season.
4 to 6 months is the ideal time to d this.
Neutering males prevents Prostate cancer and some other illnesses, and spaying females prevents breast cancer.
For the dominance, I recommend animal massage.
I have used the Tellington-Touch method of animal massage for years, with very good results.
Go to this website and read about the massages for companion animals, and what you can accomplish with them. You can also order a video to learn how to do the massages.
That Golden will probably have trouble with Arthritis when she is older, and you can give her a lot of relief with fewer meds with a massage.
