2 yr black lab chrewed fur off?

Question
We have a 2 yr old female black lab that seems to of recently chewed part of her fur on her tail off. About the length and width of a celery stick. There is no blood, and the tissue (i assume her skin) is soft to the touch.
We have her on advantx and heart worm pill. Nor is she chewing anywhere else.
We are supposed to leave sunday for vacation, but now we are worried about our pet.
Is there anything that we can do to help it heal faster.

Answer
Hi Jodi and thanks for your question

This sounds like a flea allergy. I know you said you have her on Advantix, but even the bite of one flea can cause this reaction in sensitive dogs.

Try giving her a Benedryl (12.5mg tab 3x/day) for the next few days. I'm sure that this will get her through her rough period. You can also try rinsing the affected area with apple cider vinegar. This helps to sooth the irritated skin AND prevents bacteria and fungus from becoming involved.

I hope this helps and if I were you, I'd take my vacation and enjoy it. Make sure that her caretaker has these items available in case she needs them.

Please let me know how she is doing :)
