Puppy just got spayed, not lost potty training entirely

Question
We have a 5 month old pure breed cairn terrier who was doing excellent potty training until about 5 days ago when we picked her up from being spayed. We live in an apartment and she hadn't had an accident inside for about 3 or 4 weeks (minus'ing a few dribbles when she gets excited when guests arrive). She used pee pads outside on the balcony and would normally sit at the door or run around excitedly waiting to be let out. Since we picked her up from the vets after being spayed and having 2 teeth removed, she will simply pee whenever and wherever. It's like she doesn't realize she's doing it half the time. It can be in the middle of her playing or laying there and she doesn't even squat down. However there are times she'll squat inside the house where she's NEVER had an accident before or for months. Does this sound like a bladder or some type of infection she could have gotten during the surgery? If we put her outside on the pee pad she usually will go and we continue to treat and praise her, but she even pees in her crate now which she NEVER did since we got her. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Answer
Jessica, I would recommend that you call the vet that performed the surgery and tell them what is going on. Often, incontinence can occur after a spay (just like when hystorectomies are done on humans). I would talk to the vet first, and maybe even do a urine culture to rule out an infection, and then please feel free to get back with me if the problem is not medical.
