female dog pees in house

Question
I have a female terrier mix about 10 years old(spayed). we just moved into a
new house and she won't stop pissing on the carpet. At first i scolded her and
put her outside on a run. Sometimes putting her in the basement at night
instead, she seems to be able to hold it there..but alas after i think she has
been 'taught a lesson' i let her try again and she pee's again in the same
place!!! i have been cleaning it with a enzyme cleaner and rubbing her nose in
the spot before scolding her...what else can i do? I tryed positive
reinforcement ..walking her outside to go and praising and giving her treats
but it still goes on. Any help would be worthwhile. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Jeff;
DON'T rub her nose in it.
That does absolutely NO ghood, and it is just cruelty.
It will cause her to pee for spit too.
Don't scrub with enzyme cleaners euther.
They remove the smell so you can't smell it, but she can still smell it.
Scrub it with Simple Solution.
Yopu may have to trear several times, since she has been using the same spot. It is probably soaked down into the pad, so you have to use enough to get down into that pad too.
She could be very upset over the move.
She is getting old, and she was used to the other place. When there is a move, sometimes the dogs and  cats as well, can feel disconnected, and insecure.
Take her to the place she goes, and point to it, and say,"SHAME on you !!!.  that's a bad dog, you go outside, NOT in here!!!"
Things like that. Let her watch you scrub it up, nagging all the while you are scrubbing.
she will not want to repeat that many times.
Make sure she goes out after she eats, drinks and IMMEDIATELY when she wakes.
At her age, it is harder for her to hold it too, so some of it may be accidental.
Does she have Arthritis, and trouble getting around?
This can sometimes make them go where it is convenient, instead of where they are supposed to.
If you put her in the basement, take her outside as soon as you let her out of the basement, and wait until you are sure she has gone. Lety her fetch a ball or something to get her active. If she gets active, it will be harder for her to hold her organs, and she will go.
When she gos outside, make a bid deal of it, praising her like she is the smartest and best dog in the world. scold and nag when she oes where she isn't supposed to. she will much prefer the praise. If you make a doggy door so she can go out anytime she pleases, that will also help.
