Malti poo

Hello,
My kids have been wanting a malti poo for a few months. We have never had a pet in our house. My two girls are 12 and 14 and they are pleading for this dog almost every day.
I like the dog too, we have seen a few puppies. Ofcourse my wife is not ready for any added responsibility, so it is 3 against 1. As long as we take care of the dog, she is fine.
My concern here is the cost to maintain the dog. How much would it approximately cost for the food and accessories on a monthly basis. Also the cost of the vet.
Can you please give me some advice.

Sorry I meant $1500-I work at an animal shelter thats were I get the numbers from,I own a Scottish terrier which is also small and he costs me even more then that

It's mostly the vet care that costs so much-and it also depends were you get the dog,getting a dog from a shelter is allot cheaper as the cost of getting them fixed and vaccines are included

Breeders can be expensive,but are realistic as they raise the dogs and they have to pay for feeding them vaccines ect

Petstores are the most expensive,unlike a shelter or even a breeder they are out for money only-and petstore puppies come from puppymills so they are often sickly

Just some food for thought,my first choice is always a shelter,but breeders are good as well-thanks for the feedback
