Puppy vomit

Question
Hello,
I have had my 5 month old Westie for nearly two months now.  Since I've gotten her she has vomited almost once a week.  Sometimes I can see half digested food, and sometimes it is clear.  I brought her to the vet a week ago when it happened and I was told that "some puppies will vomit for no apparent reason."  She seems very healthy other than this and I am very mindful of what she tries to put in her mouth during the day.  She eats Purina Puppy Chow.  What might be causing her upset stomach?  Also, what can I do at home to help relieve her discomfort?
Thanks!

Answer
While there could be a physical reason for your puppy's vomiting, I would look first to what you are feeding. Some foods do cause more vomiting, particularly of bile on an empty stomach. Just LOOK at the ingredients of what your puppy is eating:

"whole grain corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, brewers rice, soybean meal, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), pearled barley"

It is all grains and a bit of by-products (which can be ANY part of the chicken, including feet, beaks and feathers!) The first ingredient of a dog food should be a meat protein, not a grain. It also contains menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), a product I would NOT feed any of my dogs. http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=menadione

My suggestion would be to first get your puppy on a quality product and then see if there is any improvement. I would suggest Eagle Pet Products (what I feed), Wellness, Solid Gold, Flint River Ranch, Canidae, California Natural, Wysong, Newman's Own, or Natural Balance.
