Question
A few days ago i noticed my had his eye swollen and red. Now his blue eye is discolored and sort of yellow/brown color instead. I have no money to take him to the vet. can you tell what he has and what medication to use to make it better?

Answer
Hi Eli,

Unfortunately, you can't treat your dog's eye condition on your own. First, a diagnosis needs to be made.

Contact your vet and explain your financial situation. Some vets allow the bill to be paid off over time. Call your local Humane Association or Animal Shelter. Many times they know of reduced cost vet clinics in their area.

There is credit you can apply for to be used especially for medical and veterinary proposes. Read more about the Care Credit service here:

You could also ask your veterinarian to submit an assistance request to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) "Helping Pets Fund." In order to qualify, your animal hospital must be AAHA accredited.

IMOM has a veterinary financial assistance fund which you'd have to apply for, you can read about the process here:

Best of luck,
Patti
