MY DOGS PENIS WAS HANGING OUT AND IT DRIED AND SWOLLEN AND WOULD NOT GO BACK IN HE HAS BEEN NEUTERED .

It is not unusual for a male's penis to come out of its sheath; they do this frequently when they are sitting. If the dog has a lot of hair in that area, the penis can get stuck and have trouble retracting back into the sheath. It will dry out and become quite irritated.

Put the dog on his back and carefully "unroll" the sheath from upon itself and tug gently on it to try to get it to cover the penis again. If the tip of the penis is quite swollen the sheath might have trouble totally covering the tip, but keep working at it and check it frequently to make certain that it is staying in position.

Carefully cut or clipper all the hair from the sheath to prevent this from happening again. And be sure to check it daily as some dogs are more prone to this than others, especially as their hair grows out.
