Question
i have a 4yr old cross collie, she gets cramp in her tail.looking from front of dog the tail goes rigid straight to only left side, this happens 2-3 times a day,a quick massage at base of the back cures it,has gone on for approx six months now and i am thinking if it is serious, and would like some clues before a visit to vets. many thanks

Answer
It might be either a pinched nerve,or a bit of arthritis in the tail or spine, which both can make the tail cramp

but do watch if the dog has trouble walking or keeping her balance,as that might be something serious such as a stroke

but if it's just the tail I think she will be ok,and next time she goes to the vet for an exam just ask about it then, but right now there's no need to go to the vet
