my dog in heat

I have a 17 month Sheltie and she is in heat but she has been bleeding since March 21. Is that normal or do we have to get her checked out

Answer
Normal heat cycles last for about twenty one days. A few days over that is not abnormal. Usually after the first week the discharge begins to lighten up both in color and in amount. If after two weeks she is still having a heavy, or very dark discharge then yes I would have her vetted.
