schnauzer beard smelling sour

Hi, I am asking this for a friend.  She has a standard schnauzer named Maddie and that is 9 years old. She was wondering what can she do to keep her beard from smelling sour?  She gets her groomed about every 6 to 7 weeks and she eats dry dog food only.  Thank you for your input! :)

It sounds to me like the SS's beard is spending too much time in the water bowl and not drying out fast enough in the heat and humidity. I solved this problem with my minis when we lived in town by training them to lick water bottles. She would have to find a really large water bottle for her Standard so that it could get sufficient water.
