Question
Hi Karen,  I rescued a Sheltie puppy in Michigan back in May. He was underweight but now he is gaining weight. I was so worried with his weight but I forgot about his coat. I do give him baths but it doesn't look as healthy as my other sheltie. Could you give me some idea's to get his coat back beinging soft?

Answer
Be sure the dog is on an excellent diet, such as Eagle, Wellness, Canidae, or Solid Gold. The saying "we are what we eat" totally holds true, particularly in a coated breed, although a dog can never be more than his genetics. Not all are blessed with good coats.

He should be checked for parasites, as they will affect a coat, and it probably wouldn't hurt to have his thyroid checked as well. It may also be that you won't notice a change until he blows out this current coat and replaces it.
