Nutritional Requirements for B&T Coonhound

Question
Hi Shelley,

I'm not sure if you are the right person I should speak with but I was attracted to your holistic approach.

We have an 11 month old B&T Coonhound (rescue-non hunting) at home.  He's currently fed Innova Large Breed Puppy kibble.  He's in fantastic shape, healthy teeth, shiny coat and overall well adjusted (if I do say so myself!).

We are getting ready to switch him over to his big boy food and I was wondering if you knew of an all natural, high quality food that meets his breed's nutritional requirements?

Unfortunately, feeding raw or an all natural diet isn't a possibility for us.

The brands we are considering are: Wellness CORE, Innova EVO, Canidae ALS and Artemis.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Jessica

Answer
Hi Jessica,

Thank you for writing to me.  Sorry about the delay..computer was on the fritz.

All the brands of food that you mentioned would be adequate for your dog as long as you have him on puppy chow at this tender age.

I would also add in a few things to round off his diet..Missing Link, a good digestive enzyme, and a high quality vitamin/mineral.  I would also make sure that he gets some fruits and veggies that are easily digestible..carrots, apples, zuccini, lightly steamed broccoli, etc..no onions or raisins.

Please note that there is freeze dried raw food that you might consider.

Make sure that you do a blood test from time to time to be sure that all his nutriational needs are being met.

Best of luck with your puppy.

Regards,
Shelley Davis
