should i be feeding my whippet anything special
because he has being throwing up lately

I doubt the problem is the food if you are feeding a commercial dog chow and little else.  Many people feed all sorts of things, often leading to all sorts of problems.  It is possible he is finding something else to eat and causing the problem.  If he doesn't settle down soon, I would check with the vet.
