Question
Hi Kristen! I recently bought another maltese puppy who is about 5 months old and I have another one who is 1 yrs old who is fully trained.  My 5month old puppy knows exactly where to pee and poo when I confine her in the room where she sleeps, however, whenever I let her out to play with my other puppy, she starts to pee and poo wherever she likes, SOMETIMES it seems she remembers to go back into her room and pee, but other times even though she's right next to her pee pee pad, she won't eliminate there when she sees my other puppy and that the pen is open for her to go in and out.  Is it cause she's distracted by my other puppy? and how should I go about making sure that she sticks to her pee pee pad because it seems like she knows where to go, but just decides not to.

Answer
Hi, Keeshia. It is highly likely that your puppy is so excited over being with your other dog that she 'forgets' about doing her business until she absolutely cannot hold it in any longer. I would make sure she has gone to the bathroom >>before<< letting her play with your other dog, and keep an eye on her while they are together, because she will give some indication that she needs to go, probably by stopping play momentarily to sniff around. When she does that, encourage her to go to the potty area and praise her when she does her business there.
